Today, July 16th, is a very special day. Yes, it happens to be my 28th birthday (a fact that doesn't fool me enough to think anyone reading this would mind, but I mention it anyway because I'm an attention-grabbing Cancer), but it is also the day when heTwilight-FranchisesuccessesNetflix. The first film follows Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) as she moves to a small town in the Pacific Northwest and attracts the attention of a mysterious glowing undead vampire (Robert Pattinson); let's chill with her date shall we?

  1. We begin with a scene of as green a forest as possible, complete with deer as Bella contemplates how she will die. Is it... weird that teenagers are so obsessed with this movie?
  2. I forgot that Bella is leaving Phoenix because her mother and new husband want to travel. She went to Forks, Washington to live with her cop dad!
  3. Oh, he's not just a cop, he's himPolice officer.I understand.
  4. I promise I won't be exposing this movie to the lesbian gaze all the time, but... Boy, did they give Kristen Stewart some really girly talent.
  5. Oh my god, it's Jacob and Billy Black! aka Taylor Lautner with long flowing hair! Man talks to woman.
  6. Bella is getting a cool red truck as a housewarming gift and she's super excited about it. As a new mom to a used Honda Fit, I understand where you're coming from. However, everyone at her new school is rude to her car because kids are jerks.
  7. Wow, I forgot about absolute gym volleyball hell.
  8. Hey, this is Anna Kendrick as a happy busybody! She is so good in this role.
  9. Bella's new friends Eric, Mike, and Jessica have lunch with her, and Eric threatens to write a story about her for the school paper, which is...I think it's a small town. In any case, he rejects it.
  10. Oh,InfernoYes, they are the Cullens.
  11. I know the Cullens are technically a billion years old, but they don't really look like they're in high school.
  12. Edward Cullen time! Gosh, they really rolled out the very thick ivory base for this.
  13. LMAO, I also forgot that Edward spends most of his time in Bella's presence looking like he's throwing up (because her blood smells good to him or something?). Still, she's understandably hurt.
  14. The wisdom of the times really changes the impression one gets from this film. Now I'm thinking, "Oh, vampire or not, Edward is an idiot."
  15. According to the "Fun Facts" in the corner of the screen, Lily Collins was being considered for the role of Bella Swan. Interesting!
  16. Edward starts skipping school, presumably to avoid Bella. Or maybe he hates school.
  17. Eventually, Bella leaves the house without a coat, just wearing the biggest gloves I've ever seen.
  18. Bella's school friends are extremely annoying, to the point where I can understand why she would leave them for a vampire cabal.
  19. Then again, at least they're nice to Bella, who doesn't seem very charming.
  20. We're back in biology class with Edward, who, it has to be said, really can wear a gray as hell t-shirt.
  21. Time to change Edward's eye color! They seem to go from black to golden brown at will. He blames the neon lights, but we know better.
  22. There is a small car accident in the school parking lot involving Bella (although Edward saves her), which gives us a chance to meet Dr. Cullen, the Cullens' adoptive father. His looks are so funny I can't stop laughing the whole time he's on screen so I really don't know what else is going on.
  23. Bella is confused as to how Edward saved her so quickly. It's super power and speed honey!
  24. Mike asks Bella to prom, but Bella tells him to ask Jessica instead. brutal, likeolivia rodrigoyou could say.
  25. I'm really not a fan of Edward in the Caban, I have to say.
  26. Bella is addicted to dropping things when Edward is around which is the only relatable part of this movie.
  27. "If you were smart you would stay away from me," Edward tells Bella, using the words of so many frightening older men before him.
  28. Bella and her friends are surfing the reservation where Jacob lives, and we learn that there is a conflict between the Cullens and the Quileutes (who are said to be descended from wolves).
  29. MilitaryDiein dark flashbacks showing the Cullens hunting in ancient costumes.
  30. Apparently the Cullens skip school when it's sunny to "hike, camp and stuff." Or if they cannot be seen in the sunlight, why will they glow? Don't continue...
  31. Bella and her mortal girls are shopping for prom dresses and when she interrupts them, she is surrounded by a group of creepy frat boys. Luckily, Edward shows up out of nowhere to save her and the boys retreat.
  32. Okay, it's game over now, but Edward still hasn't explained his powers to Bella.
  33. A friend of Bella's dad died from an "animal attack," but, um, it probably isn't, is it?
  34. Bella begins research to find out more about the Cullens and learns a lot about the undead around the world. I really am a sucker for any exposure scene.
  35. I had to rewind this famous scene twice because I laughed so hard: Edward finally takes Bella to a field and lets the sunlight hit him. Guess what? It seems. "That's killer skin, Bella," he tells her, beaming the whole time.
  36. Ah, they are in a field. Love is real, though he thirsts for her blood.
  37. Bueno,That's itIt's my favorite scene in the whole movie: Edward invites Bella to his huge mansion in the woods and they leave with their slightly critical parents and siblings.
  38. "Is she really Italian?" Rosalie Cullen asks in the angriest voice possible while everyone is cooking Italian food based on the fact that Bella's name is Bella.
  39. Oh, so it's not just Edward that the smell of Bella's blood turns on (ugh); They are all obsessed with the smell, although they have given up drinking human blood as a family.
  40. LOL, Edward is not sleeping. At any time.
  41. Edward takes Bella up a tree in front of his house, which honestly sounds like a pretty fun date.
  42. Oh god I forgot he's a piano nerd too.
  43. "What is he? Athlete? Indie?" asks Bella's mom as she says she likes a guy. Ah, 2008.
  44. Oh god, Edward's aiming for Bellasleepwithout your knowledge or consent. I know all feminists have complained about how problematic the nature of their relationship is, but damn, this is so bad.
  45. Seriously, what are girls supposed to internalize here? "Be nice and have nice smelling blood so some smart man will want to kill you"?
  46. Kristen Stewart's dazzling selection of hoodies in this film makes my heart ache.
  47. IT'S THE BASEBALL SCENE, BABY! Iconic! Bright!
  48. Why have I never gotten a bunch of my friends to play the Cullens with their baseball team on Halloween?
  49. Uh-oh, rival vampire hunters show up to spoil the fun. They smell Bella, who is famous for her good smell, and threaten to track down her scent.
  50. Rosalie doesn't want to help drive away the evil vampires, but Dr. Cullen sternly tells her that Bella is "family" now.
  51. Chase Montage! Can they really play baseball again?
  52. Every time they talk about the "tracker" I picture a Domino's pizza tracker making me want pizza.
  53. I forgot Alice is psychic LOL.
  54. James (Bad Vampire #1) captures Bella and she wakes up in the hospital with her mother. He broke his leg and lost a lot of blood, but otherwise he's fine.
  55. graduation time! Ah, I'm going to prom with a vampire in a cast.
  56. Bella and Edward kiss like normal little mortals at the prom, but there is still danger lurking on the horizon from evil vampires. For the next!

Bella's mind shield is able to block any vampire power that affects her brain.
